A day in design at the Betty Rides house
In a little green house, in a little “green” town, the Betty Rides fairies are flitting around. Ok, we’re hardly flitting. Most of the time we’re scribbling, yelling up the stairs, crumpling papers, and starting from scratch. The design process is just as colorful and fun as it is exhausting
Kristin Devries, one of our graphic designers, shared with me how each garment comes to life. “We design our own prints, we draw up everything here in the office. Our inspiration comes from past and present styles, trends we’ve noticed or we’d like to see, street wear and urban lifestyle. Then we take measurements, make sure everything fits perfectly and it’s all shipped off to be produced!”
Janet Freeman, owner and founder, is the brains and beauty behind the operation. She’s been designing and creating outerwear for almost 18 years. Betty Rides garments are as dialed as they’ve ever been. Design is a long process, but with years of experience under her belt, Janet makes it look easy
There is no shortage of style ideas at Betty Rides Headquarters in Portland, OR; an office filled with hip, action sports oriented women. We share ideas and vote on designs, and everything is wear-tested before it’s finalized. Our team riders are a big help in deciding which pieces to keep or toss. The influence and inspiration behind our line is right at our fingertips
This summer has been super busy for us. We’re getting everything finalized for the 12/13 line. (Yep, next, NEXT year’s stuff. This industry really has a way of keeping you on your toes!) We want our friends and customers to know that we love what we do, and in a nut house, excuse me, nutshell, that is how it all works
XOXO Angela, Kristin, Janet, Juli, Jen, Kate, Alyssa, Suzi, Madison and Scruffy

This summer, BETTY RIDES worked to design some hoodies for the girls at WINDELLS Summer Camp. The camp store is the place to go for gear to remind you of the past summer’s shenanigans. Sure, there’s a killer selection of 3XL tall tees and men’s zip-ups, but we wondered, “What about the ladies?”
We were inspired to create a comfortable, feminine hoody that packs style and functionality whether you’re in the city, or on the hill. We loved the longer-fit and slender cut of these hoodies, 100% made in the U.S. Betty stylists drew up some awesome custom designs and we knew these were too good to keep quiet! Customer response has been so good that we are keeping ‘em coming through the Winter. The whole line of Hoody Dresses is available through our website, bettyrides.com and select retailers.
